A clean logo on your laptop is not the same as a clean logo on a hat. Embroidery is physical — it’s thread on fabric — so your artwork has to be translated into something called a stitch file. That translation is called digitizing, and it’s the step most people skip. Let’s walk through what really matters.
Why a JPEG won't cut it
Screen printing can work straight from a high-resolution image in a lot of cases. Embroidery can’t. A machine doesn’t see colors and shapes — it needs to be told where to stitch, what direction, what stitch type, and in what order. That map is the digitized file, usually a .dst.
Good digitizing is part art, part engineering. Two shops can digitize the same logo and get very different results. The stitch direction, density, and underlay all decide whether your logo looks clean or wavy and puckered.
Simple logos embroider better
Embroidery has a practical size floor. Tiny text and hairline details that look fine in print tend to disappear or turn into a blob when stitched at hat size. If your logo has a tagline in 4-point font, we’ll usually recommend simplifying it for embroidery — keep the main mark, drop the fine print, or move text to a second line.
Bold, clean logos with a few colors embroider beautifully. That doesn’t mean your complex logo is doomed; it means we’ll adapt it so it actually reads on thread.
The proof is where you stay in control
Once your logo is digitized, we don’t just run it on your order. We send you a digital proof first — a stitched-out sample or a render — so you can approve colors, size, and placement before production starts. If something looks off, this is the moment to fix it. After the needles start, changes get expensive.
This is also why we do digitizing in-house. We can adjust the file on the fly instead of waiting on an outside service.
First time? There's a discount
If this is your first embroidery order with us, you get 50% off digitizing. It’s our way of removing the one cost that scares people off trying embroidery for the first time. Bring us your logo and we’ll handle the rest — from digitizing to the final stitch, all under one roof on Water Street.
